Hello Everyone!  My name is Allison VanDriessche.  This is my 19th year of teaching.  I love learning about Science as much as I love teaching it.  We will spend the year learning from one another.  You have just as much to teach me as I do you.  One of the most important goals to me is that my parent(s) know what is going on in our classroom.  I email a weekly newsletter to students and parents detailing what we will be studying, due dates, and I attach the assignments to Skyward so students have a better opportunity to make their responsibilities fit into their schedule.  Many students are involved in extracurricular activities .  This is just a tool to help you plan.  Please feel free to email me throughout the year with any questions or concerns that you may have at vandriesschea@bcschools.net!  I will reply as quickly as possible.

Going along with our mission at Western Middle School, "Failure is NOT an option and GROWTH is our destination," I want to see you (your child) succeed.  School is very much like a sport or an interest  that you might have.  For example, you will not be an awesome batter the first time that you pick up a baseball bat.  You will not be first chair in band as a flute player without practicing the songs.  It is unlikely that you will sink a 3 pointer your first try.  School is the same.  While learning, you might not get it right on your first try.

Therefore, I allow re-works any assignment (aside from a quiz).  If you are unhappy with a score, simply re-work the assignment for more points.  Please make sure that the re-work is completed 1 week from the posting of the grade to Skyward.  I also allow test corrections.  You will need to bring a cold lunch on the assigned test correction day and report to my classroom.  I give 1/2 a point back for each correction that you make.  If the problem is worth 3 points and you got 0 points correct but after test corrections got the whole problem right, I would give 1 1/2 points back.  If the problem is 2 points and you received 0 points, then 1 point could be earned back with test corrections.  Remember, if there are special circumstances, I can always work with yoto accomodate his or her needs.
